The pacific lamprey is an ancient fish that dates to pre-historic days. Similar to salmon (but much older) it travels out to sea where it hitches a ride on larger fish. Then it detaches and heads up stream to spawn. All the native american tribes in the Pacific Northwest have myths and rituals surrounding the Pacific Lamprey. Recently the numbers of lamprey have fallen and the tribes are working together to solve the problem. The last remaining waterfall where the tribes can catch them is at the Willamette Falls in Oregon City, OR.
