Eco Photo Newsletter 001

In This Issue

Introduction

Why are you getting this newsletter? Perhaps you are a print or online magazine that could use story ideas on organic farms, renewable energy or other topics in the sustainability field. Or you may be part of my network of friends, colleagues and other like-minded people that may be interested in my latest eco-photography adventures. I have begun specializing in shooting "eco" businesses to reflect my own life decision to lead a more green life and this monthly newsletter will feature the people and places I've been photographing.

This first newsletter highlights two organic farms that are about an hour south of Portland, Ore, where I live. For a city girl, meeting the people who grow my food and seeing the land it grows on has been an eye opening experience. I highly recommend visiting a farm in your area if you haven't already done so. Please shoot me an email if you would be interested in using my images or know of other sustainable business in the Portland, Ore area that could use documenting.

Take care,
Shawn

Spring Hill Farm
Organic Vegetable Farm in Albany, Ore

Spring Hill Farm is a certified organic vegetable farm in Albany, Ore.  Jamie Kitzrow, owner, says he grows about 80 types of vegetables on his Spring Hill Farm throughout the year. Jamie has some of the best produce I've ever eaten and it's all grown without pesticides. His produce can be found at many of the Portland Farmers Markets and at New Seasons Markets. Highland Oak Farm
Grass-fed Cattle Farm, Scio, Ore

Highland Oak Farm is a small grass-fed cattle farm in Scio, Ore.  Jonathan Ehmig, an Oregon native, runs the farm with his father-in-law and sells his meat directly to restaurants and markets. His farm is committed to sustainable farming practices and to raising his cattle in a humane manner. If you've ever heard that steaks from grass fed cattle are tough, try Highland Oak. The steaks are tender, juicy and delicious. Jonathan can be met in person at the Portland Farmers Market and a photo gallery of Jonathan and his farm can be seen at http://www.shawnlinehan.com/photos/highlandoak
