About This Sight

November 6th, 2008

Zora Neale Hurston’s saying,  ‘you have to go there to know there’, comes to mind when people ask why I quit my job to study sustainable living.  I knew I needed to take the time to connect, to study, to read, and to read some more in order to find my path into future. I know a little about photography and am using it to guide my studies and this is the place where I chronicle my adventures.  Here you’ll find personal stories about sustainability, organic farming, and renewable energy. I’ll also include a link or two to places that inspire me.  If you know of an organic farm or business which focuses on sustainability and would allow me to photograph what they do, please send me their information. Welcome to Shawn’s adventures into eco-photography.

Hey Shawn. Hope you’re doing well. This is an awesome site and what a cool idea. I snooped around with google a little and found a site that lists contact info for organic farms in WA and OR

btw: I’m gonna have to try some of those yellow grits!

Jarrett, beware the yellow grits, you may never go back to white!

    Hi Shawn,

I found your website through hen power’s flickr account. I really enjoyed seeing your photography.

I’ve just started working on my own personal photography projects primarily having to do with small-scale enterprise and agriculture. Specifically community supported agriculture and responsibly raised livestock.

You can see some of my work at my site if you’re interested. And if you’re ever in southeast Kansas drop me a line.

    Thanks Nick, I will!

Hello there, my friend & neighbor Nancy Barnett just turned me onto your website and blog. What a great job you’re doing. Wonderful topic to focus on, and I’m very impressed with the look and content of your blog; I have been considering starting one myself, to talk about music et al that I work among, but now I realize I’ve got a lot of work to do before I start!

    Sincerely,
    Martin Anderson

PS: I particularly liked your quote regarding hemp: “A system that illegalizes the farming of a food that is obviously healthy for us has confused its priorities.”
